If any of you have turned your TVs to the news channels, opened a newspaper or
accessed any gossip website lately, you’ll have been shocked by the news! None other than Heathcroft High, the local high school where my daughters and many of our children surely attend, has accepted a few Nought children to study alongside us Crosses.
I was looking at this photo of the school grounds from just a few months ago, and I felt comforted by the safety and quality of education of the school. I fear for what a photo of this same area, taken in a few months, could look like. Noughts have no sense of order or cleanliness, and could ruin the hygiene and aesthetic that Heathcroft High has maintained and took pride in for so long. Not to mention, if any of these children turn out to be a secret member of a rebellion force, the safety of our next generation could be seriously in danger!
Now, I would like to make a point in the Noughts’ defense. Since authorities haven’t previously allowed Noughts to have access to our fine quality of education, they haven’t been able to advance to our “level”, to say. They haven’t been able to understand the true standards of education, cleanliness, order, and overall quality of life that we do.
Perhaps by accepting a few Noughts into our education system, we can open their eyes to the finer things in life; the knowledge we’ve had such easy access to all these years. By experiencing what our daily lives are like, they may learn to act more like civilized people in society, and earn themselves more respect among us. Not too much respect, of course…
Of course, this opportunity comes at a cost for both Crosses and Noughts. If they choose to continue their current behavior of rebellion and disorder, they’ll bring themselves even further down on the social ladder. Our children could be in danger, not just physically but mentally - they could feel inspired to rebel against their equals or even their authority…
I guess the saying to remember today, is that “Freedom comes with a cost.”
